Bride-to-be
âAaargh!â Diamond shouted. She tried to pull up again on the wide metal gate with both hands but it wouldnât lift no matter what. She rubbed her sore hands and tried once more.
She grunted. It wouldnât budge. She groaned. Why on Earth was the gate being stubborn? Of all days for her to need silicone spray, why was it today? She knew why. She said bad things about last nightâs date earlier and now she was paying for it. Karma sucked! She glanced at the gate and then toward the mall exit. Should she attempt to run out and buy the oil needed to release the metal barrier? Maybe sheâd try one more time if her arms would let her... She bent down, her butt high up in the air, when a voice caught her attention.
âCan I help?â A handsome, tall male rushed to her aide. Suddenly, the gate sprung out of her hands. He lifted it effortlessly.
Holy cow! Was he Superman? She stared wide-eyed at the gate above her and then back at the blue-eyed Casanova standing beside her, grinning. My god, he was gorgeous. What was he doing in a mall at this hour all by his lonesome? Shouldnât women be prowling around him right now? Too bad her date last night didnât look this good. Maybe then she wouldâve listened to his droning.
âHow? But how did you do that?â She couldnât help but stare at the ripples and bulges where his shirt tightened. Good lord, he was Superman!
âWow,â she murmured. She wasnât even aware she had spoken. He smiled.
âAre you okay, miss?â
âUm... um, yeah, I mean thanks.â She licked her lips and stared at his biceps. âWow, youâre pretty strong.â
âNo problem.â He chuckled. âIs there anything else I can do to help?â
âHmmm. Oh.â She whipped around to the door. âUh, no. Youâve been more than helpful, Mr. uh.â She held her hand out to him. âIâm Diamond, and you are?â
âYouâre welcome.â He shook her hand.
âWait, you didnât give me your name.â
He smiled again. âItâs Zacharius but you can call me Zack.â
âOh... okay Zack. Thanks again for your help. That gate just wouldnât budge today. Quite stubborn. I appreciate it. Now I can actually get to work.â She giggled. âI hope you have a good day, Zack. It was nice meeting you.â
âOh, Iâm not done yet.â His grin displayed two rows of perfect white teeth.
âNo? Are you looking for something for your wedding?â He stood in front of her bridal shop, after all. Please say no, please say no.
âNo.â
Oh, thank god! She flipped the light switch just inside the entrance. What was he doing in a bridal store, anyway?
âSo, what can I help you with, Zack?â Diamond shoved her purse underneath the long counter at the back of the store.
âI think Iâd like to look around a bit to see what you have.â He surveyed the room.
âOkay. Let me know if you need any help.â
âI will. Thanks.â Zack headed to one side of the room. Diamond glanced at the front of the store when the visitor indicator chimed.
